How do I know if I need
individual therapy?

Everybody deals with something.

If you want to make positive changes and improve your quality of life, individual therapy may be right for you.

Some people work with a psychotherapist to treat certain mental health diagnoses like anxiety, depression, or ADHD. Others seek counseling for more everyday type concerns like stress on the job, problems in their relationships, or for questions like “What am I doing with my life?”

Sometimes it’s nice to have someone you can talk to who you know will listen, who can be objective and non-judgmental, and who you know will keep your thoughts and feelings private.

How do I pick the therapist that’s right for me?

It’s important to be sure that you see a well-trained, licensed professional.

I am licensed with the State of Tennessee as an LPC/MHSP – Licensed Professional Counselor/Mental Health Services Provider. This license allows me to diagnose and practice therapy in the state. I have a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Lipscomb University in Nashville.

It’s equally important to pick a therapist that you are comfortable with.

You’re going to be spending a lot of time with this person, so you need to be sure you get along with your therapist and that you feel comfortable he or she will be able to meet your needs.

That’s why I offer a free 30-minute consultation in my therapy office before we get started. That way you can meet me, ask any questions that you may have, and tell me more about yourself and why you’re considering counseling.

If we both agree that we’re a good fit, then we schedule our first session and get the ball rolling.

How do we set goals? How long will I be in individual therapy?

Remember that individual therapy is all about you.

You and I will collaborate during your first therapy session to select goals and plot a course for your individual therapy. How long therapy will last will depend on the goals you select and how hard you are willing to work during and outside of our sessions together. Therapy can be very effective and very rewarding, but it does require work on both of our parts. I promise to give you my very best 100% of the time. You need to be ready to make that same promise to yourself.
